Voter ID campaign

About the campaign

The Elections Act (2022) brought unprecedented changes to the way we vote and potentially to who can vote, including:

  • The introduction of accepted forms of photographic identification (photo ID) required to vote in all elections
  • Changes to postal and proxy voting
  • Changes to overseas voting
  • Changes to the voting system for the Mayor of London elections
  • Changes to the voting rights of some EU Londoners

Hence, the GLA ran an impartial GLA Voter ID public awareness campaign to:

  • raise awareness of the requirement to have photo ID to vote
  • ensure eligible Londoners have a suitable photo ID to vote or can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate, if needed.
  • support communities that might be disproportionally impact by these changes to continue to use their voice and their vote in decision impacting them, the city and the country

The campaign is led by the Greater London Authority and delivered in collaboration with:

  • borough councils in London
  • community organisations
  • faith groups
  • education institutions

Find all the resources you need to be informed and educate others:

  • social media content
  • posters and leaflets
  • information in community languages
  • accessible formats
  • educational materials
