GLA democratic participation grants

The Greater London Authority (GLA) provides grants to help under-registered and under-represented Londoners access their civic and democratic rights.

This funding supports civil society organisations to deliver targeted, non-party political initiatives that increase civic and democratic participation across London.

Current grant funding status

We are not accepting new grant applications at this time and we have no immediate plans to do so.

Active projects

The current phase 3 of the grants programme provides up to £25,000 in funding to equity-led civil society organisations. Delivery of this phase started in September 2024 and will end in June 2025.

By equity-led civil society organisations we mean those where at least half of the management team (including trustees and senior staff) and employees identify with one or more of our priority communities:

  • young Londoners (aged 16-25)
  • Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Londoners
  • migrant Londoners, including EU and Commonwealth citizens
  • D/deaf and disabled Londoners
  • older Londoners
  • LGBTQIA+ Londoners
  • Londoners in precarious housing situations or experiencing homelessness
  • social and private renting Londoners

Eleven equity-led civil society organisations secured grants in this phase and are delivering democratic participation projects across London. These organisations were selected through an open application process in August 2024.

Grant-funded organisations must also demonstrate practical experience addressing the civic and democratic barriers faced by these communities. This approach ensures our funded work is led by and based in the communities we aim to support.
